Steamed Spongy Cake / Bolu Kukus

Steamed Spongy Cake ( Chocolate Flavour )



Ingredients :


5 egg yolks

4 egg whites

250 grams granulated sugar

½ teaspoon vanilla

300 grams wheat flour, sifted together with ½ teaspoon baking soda

175 cc soda water or soft drink

food dye or 1 tablespoonful chocolate powder



Cooking Direction :


Line about 20 Bolu Kukus Moulds, with grease-proof paper
Put into a steamer with boiling water


Beat eggs, sugar and vanilla till fluffy,
Add by turns ½ part flour, ½ part soda water and the remaining ½ part fl our, ½ part soda water, stirring well.

Take 5 tablespoonful batter and add food dye or chocolate powder

Pour white batter into moulds almost to the brim, add 1-2 teaspoonful dyed or chocolate batter


Cover the steamer and cook for about 20 minutes on high heat without opening the lid.
Steam for another 25 minutes till the cakes open up and are done.
